About MCLC
At Methodist Children’s Learning Center, we provide a safe, nurturing, and faith-centered environment where children can learn, grow, and feel truly cared for from 6 weeks through age 5. As a ministry of First United Methodist Church in DeRidder, our foundation is rooted in faith, community, and a deep commitment to the families we serve.
Our days are built around more than just routines. We focus on connection, consistency, and helping each child feel confident and supported as they explore, play, and learn. From classroom activities to outdoor play and everyday moments in between, we believe those small experiences are where real growth happens.
We’re proud to be part of the DeRidder community and to partner with families during such an important stage of their child’s life.

Savannah Lott
Director
I started at Methodist Children’s Learning Center in December 2021 as a teacher, and I honestly never imagined just how much this place would come to mean to me. Over the years, I’ve grown into the Director role, but the heart of it has always been the same—loving these kids and being part of their everyday lives.
The relationships I’ve built here with our students, families, and staff are something I’ll always treasure. Watching the kids learn, grow, and hit those little milestones is what makes every long day worth it. This place isn’t just where I work—it’s truly a second home.
Alaina Vargas
Assistant Director
April 2026 marks five years for me at the Methodist Children’s Learning Center, and it is hard to believe how quickly the time has passed. If someone had told me in April of 2021 that within a few short years I would be helping manage this center as Assistant Director, I would not have believed them. What began as an opportunity to serve in early childhood education has grown into a role that has challenged me, shaped me, and brought me so much fulfillment.
Early childhood education is truly rewarding, and when I walk through the doors each day, this place hardly feels like a job. The women I have the privilege of working alongside, along with the children we care for, make this center feel like a second home. The innocence, joy, and honesty of children inspire and strengthen my relationship with God, reminding me daily of the importance of love, patience, and grace. Building strong relationships with families is one of our greatest goals, because trust and connection are at the heart of quality care. Above all, child safety remains my highest priority, and I am honored to help create an environment where children can learn, grow, and thrive.
